Driving theory test 'changed to improve road safety'
The government will no longer be publishing the questions for the driving theory test in an attempt to improve road safety.
At the moment, it is possible for trainee motorists to remember the answers to the examination by rote, which could mean learners are coming away from the assessment with inadequate knowledge of the rules.
"We aim to encourage candidates to prepare by learning each topic area thoroughly rather than just memorising the questions and answers," Road Safety Minister Mike Penning said.
He added that the government hopes this will improve drivers' retention of the knowledge assessed by the test, increasing the likelihood they will play by the book when they are behind the wheel.
The changes were made yesterday (January 23rd) and come after car insurance experts called for the leadership to work on road safety in order to reduce the number of claims made by crash victims and - as a result - the premiums paid by motorists.
