Good car maintenance 'cheap way to be fuel efficient'

Good car maintenance is one of the cheapest ways to make automobiles economical and save money on fuel.

This is the advice of TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk, which stated that some easy ways to improve the efficiency of a vehicle include removing roof racks, using smooth wheel covers and adding a belly pan.

Indeed, Simon Elstow, Head of Training at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, recently recommended cleaning a motor's windows regularly, as dirty glass mists-up quickly so less energy goes on air-conditioning and heaters.

As many as 78 per cent of drivers would be prepared to retro-fit their car to save money on fuel, TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk said, adding that some less straightforward measures can be taken to reduce the cost of being on the road.

For instance, engine chipping, converting an automobile to run on biofuel or LPG and fitting a hybrid or electric vehicle system could make a big difference, the firm said.

However, when drivers are taking on big projects like this, it is important they contact their car insurance provider.
