Road safety charity 'angry bill to end daylight saving not passed'
Gem Motoring Assist, a road safety charity, has expressed its anger that a bill to end daylight saving was not passed, despite widespread support.
The organisation noted as many as 120 MPs voted for the proposal to move britain's clocks forward by an hour throughout the year to increase the amount of sunshine people see in the evening.
Meanwhile, ten politicians were against the bill, but the session ran out of time before the motion could be passed.
Chief Executive at GEM David Williams explained winter weather is dangerous enough for drivers without also forcing them to take to the roads in the dark.
"Year on year the evidence shows that the accident rate on the roads increases after the clocks go back and we believe that this unnecessary hold up will cost lives," he stated.
Officials backing the campaign - which is called Lighter Later - were quoted by those behind the proposals as suggesting some politicians held back the debate on daylight savings, which was held on Friday.
These included Adrian Sanders Lord Slate and Ben Bradshaw.
